No

The monastery Pelplin ( Polplinum ) is a former, the Virgin Mary, St. Bernard, St. Benedict and St. Stanislaus dedicated Cistercian abbey. It is located in the city Pelplin in the Pomeranian Voivodeship south of Gdansk in Poland.

History

The Convent was founded in 1258 by Duke Sambor II of Pomerania daughter of Abbey Doberan, derived on the filiation monastery Amelungsborn and Klosterkamp from primary Abbey Mori Moon, in Pogódki ( Pogutken ) at Kościerzyna ( Berent ), and in 1276 moved to Pelplin. With arrangement of the Prussian government on March 5, 1823, was repealed. Since 1824, the Church is the diocese Pelplin Cathedral.

Buildings and plant

The construction of the church, a large brick building (length 80 m, height 26 m ) was begun in 1289. The church was completed in 1323, the vaults, however, only 1557. It is a cross-shaped, three-aisled basilica on almost symmetrical floor plan, divided halfway by a zweischiffiges transept. The choir is currently closed. The predominantly Mannerist and originating from the Baroque period features ( pulpit in 1682, Organ 1677 to 1680, the large main altar from 1623 to 1628 ) was purified from 1894 to 1899 (further details in the local Article Pelplin ).

The exam is to the right of the church. The cloister jumps into the church. The monastery buildings were partially removed in the early 20th century and now house a seminary. In the library of the theological seminary one of the 49 extant copies of the Gutenberg Bible is kept.
