Pendleton is a town in Madison County, Indiana, United States about 25 km northeast of Indianapolis with about 3,800 inhabitants (2005 ).

In Pendleton, the secondary schools of the southern Madison County is home to the Pendleton Heights High School, the largest is attended by about 1,000 students.

History

The first European-descended settlers arrived in 1818 to Pendleton; 1823 the administration of the newly formed Madison County was located here; to this the town was born. In 1830 the town was renamed in Pendleton.

Before that White Americans were hanged for the murder of Indians for a death sentence in the 1820s by the court of Madison County in Pendleton for the first time. The late 19th century the administration of the county seat was moved to Anderson.
