History

Penny Lover was released on September 30, 1984 worldwide. The song was released as the fifth single from the album Can not Slow Down. It was, in some countries such as Germany ( 37th ), The Netherlands ( 14th) and New Zealand ( 30th place ) quite successfully. Just as Stuck on You also gained the song in the United States commercially success: he placed in the Billboard Hot 100 charts at number eight on the Billboard Hot R & B / Hip- Hop charts also in eighth place and on the Billboard Hot adult contemporary charts at number one.

In Billboard magazine Penny Lover was described as " a more infallibly effective, universally appealing ballad". Allmusic called Penny Lover as the other ballads on the album as " smooth", but "convincing". The piece was named on the website as "Track Pick", as selected piece from the album.

Music Video

In the music video was done by Bob Giraldi Director, who did so well at Running with the Night and Hello. The video shows Richie at a nightclub where he plays the piano and sings the song going around and snuggling in other scenes with a woman.
