Penrose, New Zealand

Penrose is a southern suburb of the New Zealand city of Auckland. It is characterized primarily industrial, and also includes the Industrial Edge of Auckland ( the industrial belt of Auckland ).

Geography

Penrose is approximately 9 km from the city center of Auckland removed. The suburb lies west of the Great South Road, one of the main roads leading from Auckland south to Manukau. In the north of Penrose are the neighborhoods Ellerslie and Greenlane, in the West Royal Oak, east of Mount Wellington and Onehunga in the southwest. In addition, Penrose is bounded on the south by the Mangere Inlet, an offshoot of the Manukau Harbour. To the north is Auckland's largest park, Cornwall park around the volcano One Tree Hill ( Maungakiekie ). Penrose is also the location of the great Rugby Stadium Ericsson Stadium ( formerly Mt Smart Stadium ), will be held in the regular international matches.

History

The area of Penrose was first settled around 1860 after Auckland 1840 New Zealand became capital and spread as a result. At that time, here first a military base around which were gradually settlements. The area around One Tree Hill belonged to the turn of the century to the basic property of Sir John Logan Campbell, an influential New Zealand businessman and the mayor of Auckland. After his death in 1912 he bequeathed this great area of the population of Auckland as a leisure and recreation facility. He is buried on the summit of One Tree Hill.
