People's National Convention (Ghana)

The People's National Convention (PNC ) is a political party in Ghana, which is also represented in the Parliament. Officially, the PNC has been approved only in 1992 with the fourth and current constitution of Ghana. In the last elections to the Parliament on 7 December 2004, four of the 230 seats in Parliament of Ghana were won by the People's National Convention.

The Ghanaian elections is an electoral system, which favors two parties generally. The parliamentary seats are allocated by direct vote in constituencies.

Edward Mahama, Chairman of the People's National Convention in 2004 was also a candidate in the presidential elections. He scored 1.9% of the vote and did not get into the runoff of the top two candidates. In 2000 and 1996, the PNC had set out unsuccessfully with Mahama in the elections for the presidency. A change in strategy led in 2004 to the fact that Mahama formed a grand coalition ( Grand Coalition). The PNC teamed up with Every Ghanaian Living Everywhere ( EGLE ) and the Great Consolidated Popular Party ( GCPP ). Nevertheless Mahama was defeated, later president John Agyekum Kufuor.

The logo of the party consists of the colors red, white and green. On red square background a white circle in the center is shown in which a green palm tree is stylized. Under the white circle, the words " Eye Kube " are also shown in white.
