Per Federspiel

Torben Per Federspiel (* April 9, 1905, † 27 November 1994), was a Danish politician ( Venstre ). From 1960 to 1963 he was President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council.

Life

Per Federspiel was the son of a lawyer Holger Federspiel (1868-1934) and Asta Nutzhorn ( 1880-1951 ). In 1931 he received his degree in law at the University of Copenhagen made ​​. In 1937, he became a lawyer from the Østre Landsret (Supreme Court). Work for the law firm of Max Rothenborg brought him into contact with Jewish customers and gave him an insight into the situation of the Jews in Hitler's Germany.

During the German occupation, he was responsible for organizing the financing of a large part of the resistance movement. He was arrested by the Gestapo in October 1943 and arrested after succeeding in escaping, in April 1944 again. The following year he was in Vestre Prison, in Horserød stock and in the Frøslev stock. After the war he became the first president of a charity for the families of members of the resistance.

He was Minister for Special Affairs in the Cabinet of Knud Kristensen in the period from 1945 to 1947, then a member of the Folketing (the first chamber of Parliament) from 1947 to 1950 and again from 1957 to 1973. From 1951 to 1953 he was a member of the county council ( second Chamber). From 1960 to 1963 he was the only Danish chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council.
