Per Krafft the Younger
Per Krafft the Younger ( born November 1, 1777 Stockholm, † November 12, 1863 ) was a Swedish painter, draftsman and lithographer who became known primarily as a portrait painter.
Life
His father was Per Krafft the Elder ( † 1793). Already at age six, he began training in 1783 at the Kungliga Konstakademien. From 1796 to 1799 he studied in Paris under Jacques -Louis David; then he stayed for five years in Italy. 1805 Krafft was appointed court painter, in 1807 he received a Vice- Chair at the Kungliga Konstakademien. From 1818 to 1856 he was Professor of Drawing.
Krafft painted more than 400 portraits and about a hundred more pictures, among other battles and history painting. His style is considered to be realistic.
He was married to the painter Brita Sofia Robsahm ( 1784-1854 ).
