Percy Joske

Sir Percy Ernest Joske, CMG ( born October 5, 1895 in Melbourne, † April 25, 1981 in Sydney) was an Australian lawyer and politician. Joske was a judge of the Commonwealth Industrial Court and the author of several books.

Life

Joske was born in 1895 in Melbourne, the youngest of three children of German -born lawyer Ernest Joske and his wife Evalyn. The mother died as a result of the birth. Percy Joske attended Wesley College and studied law at the University of Melbourne. In 1918 he finished his law studies with a Master of Law, 1923, he passed the examinations for the Master of Arts. Joske specialized in the topic of family law. In 1951 he was elected member of the House of Representatives, where he represented the interests of the constituency Balaklava for the Liberal Party. He held until 1960 the seat. In June 1960 he was appointed to a post on the Richter Commonwealth Industrial Court. As a judge, he has also worked for the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory ( also from 1960), the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory (from 1961) and from 1966 for the Supreme Court of Norfolk Iceland. He also spoke regularly at the Supreme Court in Canberra law. Published in 1978 Joske a biography of the politician Robert Menzies.

Joske was married twice and had a son from his first marriage.

Honors

Joske was admitted to the Order of St Michael and St George in 1967, In 1977 he was knighted.
