Perfluorotributylamine ( PFTBA ) is a liquid selected from the group of the perfluorocarbons, which strongly promotes the greenhouse effect in the atmosphere.
Properties
Perfluorotributylamine is a water-insoluble and chemically inert, colorless liquid. Researchers at the University of Toronto found that as the gas PFTBA owns the 7100 -fold global warming potential of carbon dioxide. As it is only found in traces in the atmosphere, its overall effect only 1/10.000 is as large as that of carbon dioxide.
Use
PFTBA is, among other things in the electronics industry (trade name such as Fluorinert FC -43 ) used for heat test and the vapor phase soldering as well as in mass spectrometry as a calibration standard. Preparations perfluorotributylamine (eg, Fluosol ) included and other perfluorocarbons are suitable as blood and red cell replacement and are also used in ophthalmic medicine and particle counters in aircraft.
