Pernand-Vergelesses

Pernand -Vergelesses is a commune with 269 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) and an area of 5.6 km ². It lies in the northern part of the Côte de Beaune, about eight kilometers from Beaune west of the RN 74 at an altitude 238-435 m above sea level and is part of the Côte-d'Or department. Because of its wines Pernand -Vergelesses is well known. With Bonneau du Martray one of the most famous wineries of Burgundy in the municipality is located.

Personalities

In 1925, Jacques Copeau, the founder of the Théâtre du Vieux- Colombier ( Theatre in the Old Dovecote ) with his company in Pernand -Vergelesses settled.

Viticulture in Pernand -Vergelesses

The municipality with the same appellation produces on its acreage, which is bordered on the south by the appellation of Aloxe -Corton, approximately 2500 hl of red wine. The most famous Premier Cru from this place is undoubtedly the Île des Vergelesses. Also here about 400 hl excellent white wines are produced. The community shares in the Grand Cru Corton and Corton -Charlemagne.
