Pertinax of Byzantium

Pertinax († 187) was bishop of Byzantium in the years 169-187. About him there is a legend -like report of Dorotheus of Tyre. Then it is said to have been a Roman officer who was stationed in Thrace, when he fell ill, and heard tell of the Christians in the area of the miracles of their god. He had then complained to the bishop of Constantinople Opel, Alypius, who had converted him, after which Pertinax was completely recovered. Alypius had appointed his presbyters him then and after Alypius ' he had taken over the office of bishop 's death.

Tradition has it also that Pertinax had built (today's Galata ) from its own assets a bishop's house in Sykeon district, around which a settlement of Christians then had arisen.

The Patriarch list listed for Pertinax 17 years in office, but it is not excluded that in the first years are included as a presbyter under Alypius with. His successor was Olympianus.
