History

The oldest documents from the Abbey of St. George -Fiecht in whose fief of the Achensee stood in the 14th century, affecting the grazing rights in the valleys near Pertisau and the offer to the residents to look at avalanche risk protection in Münster, the canonically the country under stood.

Since the 15th century used the Hapsburg rulers remained until 1918, the forests around Pertisau for hunting and fishing lake. Under Maximilian I. the princely house was built in 1466 for this purpose as an imperial hostel. It is recorded, the last knight spent in Pertisau his finest hunts. Economy: " Tyrolean rock oil"

In the area around Pertisau is since 1902 in the mining oil shale, from which the so-called Tyrolean shale oil is extracted, mined. The oil shale in this region is about 180 million years old and was pressed in the folding of the Karwendel Mountains from the former sediment layers of dried seabed upwards.

Pioneer of the oil shale mining on Lake Achen was the geological autodidact Martin Albrecht, who found the rock near the Gaisalm on the steep western shore of the lake by accident. The first mine with primitive manual removal techniques, named after the wife of the discoverer Maria tunnel, was destroyed by an avalanche in 1917.

A second, more productive cleats, however, had discovered in 1908 in Bächental Martin Albrecht. Here the family Tyrolean stone oil works is Albrecht GmbH & Co. KG is still a resident of the third generation. Initially had to support the mined rock in 25 -kg vats tow twice a day on your back on a steep trail over the Gröbnerjoch processing facility in Jenbach. It was not until 1940 took mules this work, and in 1946 an aerial ropeway was built.

The oil shale recovered from the shale oil (so-called Tyrolean stone oil) is processed to cosmetic and medicinal products ( ointments, creams, massage oils, tonic, shower gel, shampoo). The self-marketing aims at an analgesic effect on muscle tension and rheumatic complaints.

The so-called Vitalberg of Pertisau is a documentation created in 2003 with a café and retail outlet in the form of a glass pyramid; He defines himself as a "museum " and is created in cooperation of the company with the Tourist Board. Here the geology of the region and the company's history, mining methods and products are explained on the basis of documentation in a mock mine. Reconstructed is the first, destroyed by the avalanche of 1917 lighting system from 1902, which was of two miners to operate manually: 8 hours one needed to win on 120 kg of oil shale 4 liters of oil. At a temperature of about 450 °, the oil is passed off as gas from the rock and is recovered in a Kondensieranlage dropwise. Today, three in the summer months continuously running fully automatic kilns and Kondensiertürme make this work.

Tourism and Sport

The gently sloping and paved entrance to the valley in the lower section are popular routes for hiking, biking and cross country skiing. The Karwendel challenging fixed rope routes for experienced climbers are furnished.

In the expiring Tristenautal there is an 18 - hole golf course. Achensee Golf Club, which was founded in 1934, is one of the oldest in the Tyrol. The place got its present shape (extension of an original 9 -hole course ), however, until 2005.

The Zwölferkopf (1480 m above sea level. A. ), which is accessed by a cable car ( Karwendel cable car ), is the site of a paragliding school and in winter a ski area. In addition, there are a toboggan run and a meditation trail.

Since 2000 will be held in September of Achenseelauf which leads into a 23.2 km long lap around the Achensee.
