Eben am Achensee is a municipality with 2880 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Schwaz in Tirol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Schwaz.

Geography

Eben is located in Achen valley, on the shore of Lake Achen ( above the lower Inn valley ) and is geographically the largest municipality in the district of Schwaz. The municipality comprises the main town and the villages of Maurach Bächental, Hinterriß and Pertisau.

History

The first documentary mention in 1112 relates to a donation from the area around the Achensee by the Lords of Schlitters to the Abbey of St. George -Fiecht. Later lords were masters of Rottenburg and the nun Chiemsee. 1313 appear Maurach and layer in the tax lists of Rottenburg as their own local communities. From these Maurach-Eben developed as an administrative unit.

Under the regent Sigmund of Tyrol the Achensee in the 15th century Habsburg (up to 1918).

Church History plane belonged to the parish of Münster. Since 1313, the grave of the popular saints Notburgastraße of rats mountain located in Eben. The local church, parsonage in 1474, 1516 and 1891 Kuratie own parish, St. Notburgastraße is ordained, and since 2004 there is a Notburgastraße Museum.

Tourism began mid-19th century. The area by the literary works of Adolf Pichler and Hermann von Gilm to Rosenegg became known.

Coat of arms

Reason: The Notburgastraße - Kandele reminiscent of the St.. Notburgastraße, venerated in the Sanctuary to Eben. The black lace and the blue boxes indicate the mountain setting of this community and the Achensee.

The coat of arms was granted by the Provincial Government of Tyrol on July 6, 1972.

Economy

Eben is marked by heavy touristy and 2003 had about 900,000 overnight stays, which are spread over the summer and winter season.

In addition to the Achensee region in summer above all the ski resorts and Rofan Zwölferkopf play a role.

Infrastructure and Transport

Eben am Achensee is achievable since the Middle Ages of the Inn Valley. From Bavaria to the north in the 12th century led a mule track from Achenpass by Achen valley to Maurach - Eben. The lake is frequented by rafts, which were pulled from the lake of horses.

The first steamer St. Joseph drove in 1887 over the lake. The summer tourist ship traffic on the Achensee has since expanded steadily between Pertisau, the Gaisalm, the seaside resort and Achen Achen church at the north end and the house Seespitz (former inn ), and Buchau Maurach at the southern end.

1889 Achenseebahn between Jenbach and the house Seespitz was opened, which served commercial purposes originally; today drives the steam engine only in the summer months as a tourist train with the stops Burgeck, ebony, Maurach and Lake.

A paved road on the route of the old mule track has been around since 1955.

Culture and sights

  • Pilgrimage Church of the Holy Notburgastraße

The church with late choir and the north tower (16th century) stands on the foundations of a Roman precursor just outside the town center. 1736-1738 built Schwaz architect Jacob Singer on a Baroque nave. The interior is Baroque. The ceiling frescoes by Christoph Anton Mayr (1899 restoration ), surrounded by stucco, depict scenes from the lives of local saints, including the characteristic sickle miracle. The bones of saints Notburgastraße be kept in a glass case at the high altar.
