Petar Lesov

Petar Lessow, Bulgarian: Петър Лесов; English transcription: Petar Lesov, ( born September 12, 1960 in Rakowski, Oblast Plovdiv ) is a former Bulgarian boxer. He was 1979 World Junior Champion, 1980 Olympic champion and 1981 and 1983 European champion.

Career

Petar Lessow began at the age of 14 years with the sport of boxing and trained as a car mechanic. The 1.68 m wide flyweight boxed for CSKA Sofia and won multiple national championships, including in 1980 and 1981.

In 1978 he started in the light flyweight at the 5th Junior European Championships in Dublin. There, however, he lost in the quarterfinals of the GDR champion and later gold medalist Robert Marx. In 1979 he won the Flyweight, the first Junior World Championships in Yokohama. He defeated while Hatsumi Soejima from Japan, Kim Kwang -sub from South Korea, János Váradi from Hungary and Nathan Mattos from the USA.

His biggest success he achieved at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, when he made ​​the Soviet Union won the gold medal in the flyweight after victories against Onofre Ramirez from Nicaragua, Hassan Sherif from Ethiopia, Gilberto Román from Mexico, Hugh Russell from Ireland and Viktor Miroshnichenko.

In 1981 he was European champion at flyweight and won the silver medal at the 2nd World Cup in Montreal. In 1983 he was again European flyweight champion and successfully fought a bronze medal at the 3rd World Cup in Rome.

In 1985, he won the fourth Gee -Bee Tournament in Helsinki.
