Pete Philly & Perquisite was a Dutch hip hop duo consisting of vocalist Pete Philly and the composer and producer Perquisite ( Pieter Perquin ), which is his by jazz, broken beat and soul -influenced hip-hop all over the world and toured two successful albums brought out.

Life

Beginning

1996 experimented Perquisite age of fourteen with hip- hop beats. Because of its marked by classic works background he adds his creations elements of the genre added. He founded his own label "Unexpected Records" and delivers his debut in 2001 with the EP "The Outta Nowhere" from, in collaboration with Benjamin Herman. He composed and still produces a second solo EP, which will appear in 2002. On this EP the clarinetist David Kweksilber can be heard as a guest musician.

Pete Philly is active at this time quite a few years as an English MC in the music scene. He acts for instance in the bands " Nicotine " en " Gotcha! " With and has with these appearances at festivals such as Mystery Land and North Sea Jazz. With its powerful live performances and freestyle qualities he makes a talking point. At the " Grote Prijs van Nederland " in 2002, he received the Musician price. He has been helped by the then only 16 -year-old trumpeter Colin Benders, who has since made a career Kyteman. Philly is also one of the performers on the CD " Unsigned " by the Dutch Pop Institute, in addition to other yet unknown Dutch hip hoppers as Opgezwolle, Lange Frans & Baas B and Raymzter.

In the fall of 2002, Pete Philly and Perquisite through a mutual friend to meet. Very quickly decided to work together in the future. Mind State

Pete & PERQ decide to expand the EP into a full album, and it follows in the March / April 2005 "Mind State". The record will be released first in Japan in collaboration with P- Vine Records, 's licensee Epitaph Europe a month later in Europe. Later, the album will also be released in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the USA and Canada, in cooperation with the American label ANTI- Records. On the album various guest musicians to hear how the Dutch singer Senna, the MC Cee Major, the American rapper Talib Kweli, saxophonist Benjamin Herman s guitarist Jesse van ruller. "Mind State" gets a lot of positive reactions of the press at home and abroad. 2006 receives the duo several music awards, including the Zilveren Harp and an Essent Award. Notoriety reached the duo especially with their eye-catching live performances, accompanied by her five - man band. The one and a half year long tour begins in small venues in the Netherlands, but after performances in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Scandinavia and the U.S. club tour is finally on 30 September 2006 at the sold-out Melkweg in Amsterdam completed. Mystery Repeats

On 10 September 2007 the second album by Pete Philly & Perquisite Mystery Repeats appear. The first single from the album " Time Flies " is a great success. On 4 April 2008, the duo will be a guest at Pauw & Witteman, where they make their second single "Empire" live in front with a string quartet. End of August 2008, Pete & PERQ their debut in the dutch top 40 with the third single " Mystery Repeats ". They are also nominated for the 2008 Gouden Notekraker and received the prestigious Amsterdamprijs voor de art from the hands of the Amsterdam mayor Job Cohen. In October 2008, Pete & PERQ start a sprawling European club tour that takes them through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Sweden, and the Netherlands Dänemarke. The first three shows are sold out and the Netherlands and abroad, the duo and their now six -man live lineup now starts to fill the halls. In March Pete & PERQ are still on a brief tour of Japan, in the summer they occur at many festivals in Europe, including the Splash ( Germany ), Sziget (Hungary ), Lowlands (Netherlands), belts ( Switzerland ) and Exit ( Serbia ). This European tour is concluded with a sold-out show at the Amsterdam Paradiso Poptempel on December 6, 2008.

A few months later, Pete & PERQ traveling with her band again from this time to the United States to the South by Southwest festival. In the break from touring Perquisite working on his first soundtrack for the film Carmen van het Noorden (among others with Tygo Gernandt ). On the film festival in Utrecht in 2009, he lands so that the film Gouden Kalf award, after he had previously won the Duiveltje as the best producer in the Netherlands. Pete Philly debuting at the same time as an actor in the play " A Man From Nowhere " the theater group MC.

In September 2009, Pete Philly & Perquisite start their last tour. With a 13 - man lineup consisting of drums, keyboards, bass, cello, Disc Jockey, a horn section and a string quartet, are Pete Philly & Perquisite on a theater tour in the Netherlands, which they have dubbed the "Final Celebration Tour". On 29 October 2009 the official last show at the sold out Rabozaal in Melkweg takes place. Since that day, the duo Pete Philly & Perquisite no longer exists.

Dissolution of the duo

Of the two musicians several reasons for the resolution are given, among others, the many grueling tours, but also disagreements about the future musical direction. All in all, there seems to be no inspiration for a third album together to give, so Pete & PERQ decide on the height of her career to end this, regardless of incomprehension of the fans.

From Perquisite released in October 2010, the album Across the EP entitled Set Me Free. Pete Philly published in 2011 his solo production Open Loops as a free download on the Internet and in October of the same year his debut album One in the Netherlands, which is also available in Germany since the end of January 2012.
