Peter A. Sarpy

Peter Abadie Sarpy (* 1804 in New Orleans, Louisiana; † January 4, 1865 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska ) was a fur trader and entrepreneur, also in the service of the Union, which contributed significantly to the development of the State of Nebraska. The Sarpy County in eastern Nebraska was named after him.

History

Originally Sarpy came from the South, specifically from New Orleans, Louisiana. His family had French roots. In 1823 he moved to Nebraska and established some settlements. He spezialisterte to post merchandise trade and was doing its part to promote the urbanization of the region of the Midwest. He married Ni -co- mi, a woman from the tribe of Omaha and received from him the nickname White Chief. On January 4, 1865, he died in Plattsmouth, Nebraska.
