Peter Barnes (pilot)

Peter " Pete " Barnes ( born March 20, 1962 in Nottingham, † January 16th, 2013 in Vauxhall, London ) was a British helicopter pilot who was involved in several British and American feature films and television productions. He was considered one of the most experienced pilots in the UK and flew several celebrities since 1991. From 1988 until his death in January 2013 Barnes graduated more than 10,500 flight hours.

Life

Barnes was born in 1962 in Nottingham and attended Oakham Independent School in Oakham, Rutland. Mid-1980s, he began a course in economics at Derbyshire College of Higher Education, which he completed in early 1990. In 1992 he started a marketing degree at the University of Derby.

Flying career

In 1989 he moved to -won green card in the U.S. and acquired the plane ticket and the commercial helicopter license in Florida. He then worked as a pilot in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the east coast of the United States.

In 1991 he returned to England and began working for Glenair Helicopters. There he worked as a helicopter mechanic in Northern Ireland and Scotland. He also flew as a helicopter pilot in the entire United Kingdom, it opened him a career in the film industry. There followed several inserts for camera flights and extras roles as a pilot for British and American films.

In the late 1990s he founded his company in Reading Helivision Ltd. and worked as a pilot in several feature films. So he had in his role as a pilot performances in the films Casino Royale, James Bond - Die Another Day, Saving Private Ryan, Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life and the BBC show Coast. He also worked with his company as a helicopter pilot for the transfer of the yacht race America's Cup and various F1 powerboat race. From 1997 to 2011 he stood as a professional pilot with rotor motion under contract and worked at the company in various tasks. In 1999 he was rescue pilot for the Great North Air Ambulance crew and honored in 2004 with an award for outstanding courage and skill for his role in a river rescue in the northeast of the British Isles. From 2011 he worked for Redhill Aerodrome and was involved in news broadcasts of the BBC and Sky News. In 2011, he was Ambassador of the Summer Olympic Games in London.

Death

Barnes caught on January 16, 2013, his helicopter in a construction crane in Vauxhall and rushed by helicopter from. After the impact, on the road, the helicopter was destroyed by fire; Barnes died in the wreck.

Private

Barnes lived until his death with his partner Rebecca and his adopted children near Mortimer in the county of Berkshire.
