Peter Beets

Peter Beets ( born June 12, 1971 in The Hague) is a Dutch jazz pianist and composer.

Both his brother Marius Beets ( b. 1966, bass ) and Alexander Beets (* 1968, tenor saxophonist ) is a jazz musician. Beets grew up in Groenlo and studied from 1992 at the Conservatory in The Hague, where he initially also studied law. He played from 1988 with his brothers as The Beets Brothers, with a debut album in 1990, which was followed by two more albums. 1996, while still a student, he published his own trio album First Date with Jeff Hamilton on drums. In 1998 he graduated at the Conservatory and won the Martial Solal price in Paris. Since 1998, he has played regularly as a pianist at the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. In 2001, he released his first CD for Criss Cross, New York trio with Rodney Whitaker and Willie Jones III, the other five albums with changing trios followed (some with guitar instead of drums). Beets toured the world with his trio, had commitments as at Birdland and performed at Lincoln Center, for example, and in a duo with Chick Corea at the Concertgebouw. In the Netherlands he had theater tour programs, for example, to Chopin meets the Blues ( title of an album with Criss Cross 2010), Porgy and Bess, Tribute to Oscar Peterson and Bach meets the Blues. He toured with the Rosenberg Trio, Rita Reys and Louis van Dijk.

In 2010 he received an Edison Jazz Award for Blues for the date with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw.
