Peter Boehm

Life

His parents, Michael and Anna Boehm, born Mark, come from Transylvania, where they belonged to the German-speaking minority before they emigrated to Canada. Boehm studied English and History (BA ) at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, completed his postgraduate studies at Carleton University in Ottawa with a MA from in International Relations and a Ph.D. in history at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Boehm is married with his wife Julia Wayand four children.

In his diplomatic career was Peter Boehm Head of America, North America and Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, where he also served as the first chief consultant for government and business. 1997-2001 he was Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS ) in Washington. 2001-2004 he was Minister for Politics, Culture and Public Relations at the Canadian Embassy in Washington DC

He served in various positions in the Ministry and has also worked in the Canadian embassies in Havana and San Jose. 1993 Peter Boehm was honored for his commitment to peace in Central America with the Canadian Foreign Service Officer Award. In addition, he was the coordinator of the Summit of the Americas in Santiago and Quebec City, Special Envoy of the democratization mission of the OAS in Peru and personal representative ( Sherpa ) of the Prime Minister at the Mar del Plata Summit 2005. Between 2005 and 2008, he was instrumental in organizing the summit of North American leaders. The Outstanding Achievement Award him the highest honor awarded in the Canadian public service.

From July 2008 to December 2012 Boehm was Canadian Ambassador in Berlin. In December 2012, he was called to Ottawa, where he assumed the position of Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
