Peter Callanan

Peter Callanan ( born June 29, 1935 in Clonakilty, County Cork, † October 11, 2009 in Innishannon, County Cork) was an Irish politician and was one of the Seanad Éireann, the upper house of the Irish Parliament, in 1997 until his death.

Callanan was a member from 1979 to 2004 the Cork County Council. First elected in 1979, he won each of the following elections. Only in 2004 he had to resign his mandate thereat, since the exercise of dual mandates, he belonged since 1997 to the Seanad Éireann, was no longer possible.

In the 1980s, he ran unsuccessfully for the Fianna Fáil for a seat in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish Parliament. Instead, he was elected to Seanad Éireann 21 1997. In the years 2002 and 2007 was re-elected.

Callanan died in 2009 at his home in Innishannon. He was married and had six children, four sons and two daughters.
