Peter Egge

Peter Andreas Harrow ( born April 1, 1869 in Trondheim, † July 15, 1959 in Oslo) was a Norwegian writer and journalist.

Life

Egges father Olaus harrow was Fuhrmann, his mother Oline Wibe came from a poverty-stricken peasant family. Peter was the second oldest of nine children of the family who lived in poverty. Peter attended the Trondheim Cathedral School, but the school had to cancel for financial reasons. He then worked as a clerk, sailor and journalist. Together with Arne Dybfest he published the magazine The nye tid. In 1897 he married Anna Marie Svensen and moved to Kristiania. One of his sons was the politician Ørnulf harrow.

Between 1913 and 1916, and in 1935 Harrow was chairman of the Norwegian Writers' Association. In 1935 he was awarded the Literature Prize Legat Gyldendals.

Work

Getting stories published harrow 1887. At that time he was still in high school. In 1891 he published his first novel Almü. A larger audience but he was not known until the late 1890s. Harrow is considered a very prolific writer and has published numerous other books. While he usually portrays the lives of ordinary people in Trondheim in his early books, he turns later on ethical and psychological issues. This phase was initiated by the 1907 novel, Hjærtet, which also became known abroad. In a third phase, from 1920 to Harrow focuses on the contrasts between the traditional way of life of the rural population Trøndelag and the developments of modern times.

From 1948 to 1955 he published his memoirs under the title Minner.
