Peter Elliott (athlete)

Peter Elliott ( born October 9, 1962 in Rawmarsh, Rotherham ) is a former British middle distance runner.

He was the last of that generation of British middle distance learning, which dominated the international competitions in the 1980s, although his success was not enough zoom to the whole of Sebastian Coe, Steve Cram and Steve Ovett.

In 1983 he had his breakthrough to world-class in the 800 -meter run. After winning behind the Spaniard Coloman Trabado silver at the Indoor Athletics European Championships, he was at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki fourth. At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, he was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Two years later he won, starting for England at the Commonwealth Games 1986 bronze behind Steve Cram and the Scot Tom McKean. At the 1987 World Championships in Rome, he won in a pure race pace silver behind the Kenyans Billy Konchellah.

The following year, he not only qualified than 800 meters, but also over 1500 meters for the Olympic Games in Seoul. About 800 meters he missed the bronze medal over 800 meters at 0.06 seconds over Said Aouita, and over 1500 m he won in a very narrow lane separating silver behind Peter Rono, but ahead of Jens -Peter Herold and Steve Cram.

In 1990, he won the 1500m gold at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland. Therefore Ahead of the European Championships in 1990 in Split he was considered favorite, but was not at his best after an injury and finished fourth over 1500 meters.
