Peter le Page Renouf

Peter le Page Renouf ( born August 23, 1822 the island of Guernsey, † October 14, 1897 in London) was a British Egyptologist.

Renouf was educated at Oxford, later became professor of Oriental languages ​​and ancient history at the Catholic University of Dublin. Since the death of Samuel Birch 1886 Renouf President of the Society of Biblical Archaeology and director was the oriental collections of the British Museum in London. He resigned from the direction of the Museum back in 1892.

Renouf worked in particular to problems of ancient Egyptian philology and the history of religion.

Peter le Page Renouf died on 14 October 1897 in London.
