Peter Moore Speer

Peter Moore Speer ( * December 29, 1862 in Oil City, Venango County, Pennsylvania, † August 3, 1933 in New York City ) was an American politician. Between 1911 and 1913 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Peter Speer attended the public schools of his home, the Allegheny College in Meadville, and the Westminster College in New Wilmington. In 1887, he graduated from Washington & Jefferson College in Washington ( Pennsylvania). After a subsequent law studies and his 1889 was admitted to a lawyer, he began in Oil City to work in this profession. Between 1891 and 1893 was spear district attorney in the local Venango County; 1895 to 1906, he served as legal representative of the City Oil City. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. In the years 1897 and 1898 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

In the congressional elections of 1910, Speer was the 28th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Nelson Platt Wheeler on March 4, 1911. Since he has not been confirmed in 1912, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1913.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives spear initially practiced as a lawyer again in Oil City. In 1918 he moved his residence and his law firm in New York City. There he worked 1918-1932 in various positions for Standard Oil. Initially he worked as a consultant for this company until 1922. From 1922 to 1928 he was a member of the Board and from 1928 to 1932 as Vice President. Then he withdrew into retirement. Peter Speer died on August 3, 1933 in New York.
