Peter Nicolai Arbo

Peter Nicolai Arbo (* June 18, 1831, † October 14, 1892 ) was a Norwegian painter.

Life

From 1852 to 1855 he studied at the Art Academy in Dusseldorf, especially with Karl Ferdinand Sohn. From 1857 to 1861 he was a member of the Düsseldorf artist association paintbox.

Work

Arbo was specialized in designs and pictures of the history of Norway and the Nordic -Germanic mythology. His most popular images are Asgardsreien (1872 ), which was used for the cover of the album Blood Fire Death of the band Bathory, and Valkyrie (1865 ). Many of his pictures are seen as important contributions to the Norwegian National Romanticism.
