Peter Riedemann

Peter Rideman (s), also known as Peter Riede man or Peter Ryedemann, (* 1506 in Silesia, † 1556 in Slovakia) is one of the major figures of the Reformation Anabaptist movement. As the leading man of the Hutterite community, he gave this confessional form. Its effect is sufficient here to the present day.

Rideman learned the shoemaking and still came to his home with the Lutheran Reformation in touch. He read the Reformation pamphlets and then picked up the Bible, the contents zeuknuss of the living God inside grabbed him by his statements as daz. Between 1527 and 1529 we find him in Upper Austria, where he was in contact with the Anabaptists and soon - was probably baptized by the work of the Baptist preacher Hans Hut and Baptists congregation joined.

Importance

Rideman was a witness of the Reformation, the Peasants' War, the beginnings of Anabaptism and the so-called Täuferrreichs of Munster. He was not only an observer, but as a writer was one of the great accountability and leading figure of the Hutterites to the designers of this era.

His early theology makes a clear example of how the spread of Reformation pamphlets views of Luther were of a shoemaker journeyman understood by the common people, in this case, and how they continue to produce under the influence of the early Anabaptist movement, particularly South German -Austrian provenance. As about traveling Baptist preacher Rideman was repeatedly arrested and imprisoned spent ( Gmunden, Nuremberg, Marburg). This circumstance made ​​him free to act as an intermediary between the rival Anabaptist groups. His goal was to lead the various groups under the umbrella of a Hutterite church together. These efforts failed. The beliefs and views of life were too different. Nevertheless Rideman called to preside jointly with Leonard Lance style Hutterite community.

During his detention, Hessian Rideman 1541 began to write his great justice. The Baptist researcher Hans -Jürgen Goertz rewrote this work with the term Conforming Nonconformity.
