Peter Ryom

Peter Ryom ( born May 31, 1937 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish musicologist. He became internationally known as the author of the eponymous Ryom directory of the works of Antonio Vivaldi.

Life

Ryom spent his early years in Paris, where his father ran a cement factory. When he was 12 years old, the family returned to Denmark.

Ryom studied musicology and French at the University of Copenhagen ( completion 1967) and then worked as a state scholarship, the " small edition " of his Vivaldi catalog raisonné. In 1977 he received his doctorate in Copenhagen Les manuscrits de Vivaldi; In 1978 he became a member of the scientific committee of the Istituto Italiano Antonio Vivaldi, which publishes works by Vivaldi in a new critical edition. From 1981 to 2002 he worked as a program director and spokesperson for the classical program of Danmarks Radio. From 1992 he was a technical editor at the music store Danske Encyklopædi ( published 1994-2002 ).

Ryoms second research focus in addition to the music of Vivaldi is the ( Catholic ) church music. In 1958 he converted from Protestantism to Catholicism; 1990 to 1999 he was a member of the Pastoral Council of the Roman Catholic Church in Denmark.
