Schöttel as Rapid coach

Peter Schöttel ( born March 26, 1967 in Vienna ) is a retired Austrian football player. With the exception of a few years Schöttel since 1986 at SK Rapid Wien worked. From 2011 to April 2013 he was a coach there.

Playing career

By 2007, he had never changed the club, although it is very likely that he had several offers from abroad who were financially lucrative than at Rapid. He once said in an interview that his dream would be to reject an offer from Real Madrid.

He played at Rapid 1986-2001 (1997-2001 as captain ) and came to a total of 524 official matches Appearances ( 436 Cup, 39 Cup, 49 European Cup ). He now holds the record for the most championship games a player for SK Rapid Wien. Overall, he scored only 6 goals (4 Championships, 2 European Cup ), which is even for a Libero relatively little.

Because of his club loyalty he enjoys iconic status at the Rapid fans. He is of his fans called " football god " and his shirt number 5 was after the end of his active career of Rapid for 10 years, until 2011, locked, but was not awarded until the summer of 2013 and indeed at Thanos Petsos.

With the Austrian national football team Peter Schöttel participated in two World Cups (1990, 1998). Overall, he played 63 international matches.

Coach, official

2001-2002 was Schöttel young director and coach of the Rapid amateurs. Since 2003 he has held the position of sport management. On November 11, 2006 Schöttel announced that he was going after sustained criticism put on in its work no later than the end of 2006 with its function in Rapid. In 2007, Schöttel as coach at the Vienna sports club for one season. From June 2009 he held the position of Manager at the First Vienna FC. Schöttel also worked as a TV analyst at the ORF.

From 14 December 2009 to May 2011 he was coach and sports director of the Austrian Bundesliga side SC Magna Wiener Neustadt.

From the beginning of the season 2011/2012 until April 2013 Schöttel was coach of SK Rapid Wien.
