Peter Speeth

Peter Speeth ( born November 29, 1772 in Mannheim, † 1831 in Odessa ) was a German architect.

Curriculum vitae

Speeth was educated at George Weber in Frankfurt am Main. He worked 1788/94 in Frankfurt am Main under Nicolas de Pigage, from 1797 in Heidelberg and in 1804 for Carl Friedrich Wilhelm, Prince of Leiningen in Amorbach. In 1807 he moved to Würzburg and was in the service of Ferdinand III. , Grand Duke of Würzburg. Here he designed the Women's Prison (1809 /10), an early and remarkable neo-Renaissance building, and the Zeller Gatehouse (1814 ), has similarities to Claude- Nicolas Ledoux's barrières for Paris, and the usher house (1811 /13). His working relationship with the Grand Duke ended in 1815, and in 1826 he moved to Russia.
