Petrovice (Bruntál District)

Petro vice ve Slezsku ( German: Petersdorf ) is a place in Okres Bruntál in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic in the north- east.

Location

The place is in Zuck Manteler Bergland, approximately 2 km south of Bishop Koppe, over whose peak the Czech-Polish border. The municipality is bordered to the north by Poland, on the east by Janov, in the south on the town Město Albrechtice, on the southwest by Heřmanovice and to the west by Zlaté Hory in Okres Jeseník.

History

For the first time it was mentioned there in 1267. While the village in the 19th century to the early 20th century was one of more than 1000 inhabitants, today some 150 inhabitants live only in the place. At the beginning of the 20th century, the city lost due to emigration due to economic factors and the damages caused by the division of Silesia remoteness almost half of its inhabitants. With the expulsion of the German population in 1945, the population fell dramatically to less than 300 inhabitants. From 1961 to 1990, the village was part of the joint management Petro Vice - Janov.
