Karlovice (Bruntál District)

Karlo Vice ( German Karlsthal ) is a municipality with 1128 inhabitants ( 1 January 2004) in the Czech Republic.

Geography

Location

The municipality is located in Altvatergebirge in the Valley of Oppa. Karlovice is connected to the micro-region Vrbensko. The village center of the elongated spot in the Okres Bruntál located five kilometers south-east of Vrbno pod Pradědem at an altitude of 478 m above sea level. M.

Community structure

To Karlovice the district Zadnà Ves ( Neukarlsthal, also Hintersdorf ) and the corridors of the former villages Adamov ( Adamsthal ) and Nové Purkartice include ( Neubürger village).

Adamsthal

The village had Adamsthal 1850 521 inhabitants, 1880 415 inhabitants and 67 houses, 291 inhabitants in 1900 and 70 houses, 262 inhabitants in 1921 and 68 houses, on December 1, 1930 285 inhabitants and 64 houses, on May 17, 1939 262 inhabitants, all German.

From August to October 1946 all Germans who remained or returned after the Second World War, were expelled from Adam Thal - a total of 207, to Bavaria, Hesse and Württemberg.

End of 1945, Slovaks and a few Czechs, on May 22, 1947 Adamov had 104 inhabitants. After 1948, most settlers, 1949, the last went. 1950 Adamov had no inhabitants. There were still twelve houses, some of which were canceled in 1951, the rest were used as farm buildings. 1952/53, Adamov was deleted as a church from the books in 1957/58 all remnants of walls and buildings completely razed.

History

Above the village was once the castle Freudenstein, created in the 13th century. The first settlement was made quite late from the year 1527th The first documentary evidence dates from the year 1558, then known as huts. This village was wiped out in the Thirty Years' War. After 1720 Hammer works were created in the town, which until the 19th century in operation. The name was derived from the founder Karlsthal the Duke of Jägerndorf Karl of Liechtenstein ( Karel z Lichtenštejna ) and the hammer works ( Karl- steel). Later enterprises of the timber and paper processing settled. Today the village is a center for recreation and tourism. The community Karlsthal had on December 1, 1930 1694 inhabitants, on May 17, 1939 and 1698 on May 22, 1947 only 943 inhabitants. The German inhabitants were dispossessed and expelled after 1945.
