Petru Pavel Aron

Petru Pavel Aron OSBM (* 1709 in Bistra, Grand Principality of Transylvania; † January 27, 1764 in Blaj ) was Romanian Greek- Catholic Bishop of Fagaras.

Life

Petru Pavel Aron, the son of a priest (* March 1712 ) went in 1730 to study philosophy at the Jesuit Colleg in Cluj. Bishop Inocenţiu Micu -Klein sent him in 1738 to study theology in Rome. 1742 after taking the vows he was ordained on August 4, 1743 for religious priests.

Following the resignation of Bishop Micu -Klein on May 7, In 1751 he was elected on November 4, 1751 as the successor. Empress Maria Theresa appointed him on February 28, 1752 Bishop of Fagaras, on July 6, 1752 Pope Benedict XIV confirmed this appointment. He was consecrated on September 1, 1752.

Bishop Petru Pavel Aron founded and organized schools, led young men to the priesthood, enabling regular clergy improved training and study abroad, especially in Rome.

He died on 27 January 1764 and was buried in Blaj.
