Phandu Skelemani

Phandu raffle Chaha Skelemani ( born January 5, 1945 in Mapoka Village, Botswana ) is a botswanischer politicians.

Biography

Ascent to the Attorney General

A native of the people of the Motswana Skelemani graduated in law at the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland ( UBLS ), from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Law ( LL.B. ). Subsequently, he worked as a lawyer and notary.

In 1973, he joined as a prosecutor (State Counsel ) in the civil service and as such was prosecutor in criminal proceedings to magistrate courts, the Court of Appeal ( Court of Appeal ) and the Supreme Court ( High Court of Botswana ). 1975 he was appointed Attorney General (Senior State Counsel ). As such, he was legal counsel of his native country at the Geneva Conference, which led to the inclusion of two additional protocols to the Geneva Conventions for treatment of prisoners of war in 1977. He also belonged to delegations at conferences Minister of Justice of the Commonwealth of Nations in Harare, Vancouver, Malaysia and Trinidad and Tobago. 1978 he was appointed Chief Public Prosecutor ( Principal State Counsel ) and Head of the Department for law enforcement with the Attorney General.

Between 1980 and 1992 Skelemani was then Deputy Attorney General ( Deputy Attorney General ), and in this function, among other heads of delegations to conferences of the United Nations in Vienna, which dealt with drug crime and international cooperation of law enforcement agencies. He also belonged to the approval committee for a Rhodes Scholarship in the region Transvaal.

In 1992 he was appointed Attorney General. Due to this office, he was Chief Legal Adviser to the government but also led a delegation at a human rights conference in Tunisia, director of the Botswana Diamantentaxierungsgesellschaft ( Botswana Diamond Valuing Company) and a member of the Political Committee for minerals. In June 1993, he was head of the delegation to the World Conference on Human Rights in Vienna as well as the delegation at the negotiations that led to the Rome Statute on the International Criminal Court in 1998.

Minister

In 2003, he ended his career in the legal government service after he was previously elected in a by-election for deputies to the National Assembly. He has represented the constituency Francistown East.

In 2004 he was appointed by President Festus Mogae as Minister of Präsidialangelegenheiten and public administration for the first time in a government. As part of a reshuffle Mogae him then appointed on 19 January 2007 Minister of Justice and Minister for Defense and Security.

Mogae's successor as president, Ian Khama, summoned him to his office on 1 April 2008 as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
