Carphedon also Phenylpiracetam is a phenyl derivative of nootropic agent, piracetam. It enhances physical performance and raises the threshold of tolerance to cold. Carphedon applies as a designer stimulant and is on the doping list. Carphedon was as well bromantan, probably developed in the 1980s in Russia for military use and for sports.

Doping

Until February 2006 sixteen athletes of doping with Carphedon were transferred, including in March 2005, the professional cyclist Danilo Hondo of Team Gerolsteiner. The last known case was the Russian biathlete Olga Pyljowa at the Olympic Winter Games 2006 in Turin on 16 February 2006.

On 8 August 2008, the Russian athlete Viktor Burajew with a positive A- sample Carphedon was tested. The B sample is still pending.

Drug

In Germany and Austria are currently no finished product with this ingredient available.

In Russia, the drug is marketed under the name Phenotropil.
