Phil Walden

Phil Walden ( born January 11, 1940 † 23 April 2006) was manager of the soul singer Otis Redding. After his accidental death in 1969 he founded his record label based in Macon Capricorn Records, for which he still took relatively unknown bands from the region under contract. His record company helped artists such as " The Allman Brothers Band ," "The Marshall Tucker Band ," " Grinder Switch" or "The Elvin Bishop Group" in the early 1970s to the international breakthrough and so coined the still new style of music "Southern Rock" with. Walden supported the 1976 U.S. presidential candidacy of outsider Jimmy Carter, candidate of the Democratic Party. To this end, he organized concerts with The Allman Brothers Band as a draft horse.
