Philip of Nassau

Philipp Graf von Nassau ( born December 1, 1566 Dillenburg, † September 3, 1595 in Rheinberg ) was a Dutch military.

Life

Philip was the son of Count John VI. of Nassau- Dillenburg, the brother of William of Orange. Like almost all of his brothers he came at an early age in the Netherlands, where he soon distinguished himself by his boldness and already in 1585 obtained the post of governor in Gorinchem and a captain of a regiment of foot of the States of Holland.

In the Leicester'schen turmoil he faced the same on the side of the States, and received in 1587 already a considerable command of the Dutch border. In previous years he had very excelled in the small war in Cologne, as he was also in the coming years the most brilliant leaders of small staa matic army.

In 1593 he made ​​his name feared by a bold train to Luxembourg, in the next few years he led a select group of 3000 Dutch man to France. The following year, he was mortally wounded in an unfortunate rider battle at the lip in Westphalia and died, well maintained by the Spaniards, already a day later on September 3 in 1595.
