Philipp Buchner

Philipp Friedrich Buchner ( born September 11, 1614 Wertheim, † March 23, 1669 in Würzburg ) was a German composer of the early Baroque.

Life

Philipp Friedrich Buchner was a choirboy in the church choir of Johann Andreas Herbst in Frankfurt am Main, where he was later organist at the Franciscan Church. After several trips, in which he joined in Poland to Catholicism and came into Italy with the school by Claudio Monteverdi in contact, he returned over France back to Würzburg and here was Kapellmeister to the Bishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn. This was followed by Buchner in 1647 to Mainz.

Work

In 1661 he published the German hymnals of the bishop and was involved in the reprint of the Mainz choir books since 1666. His work contained numerous vocal but also some instrumental compositions that were considered as novel within the Rhine-Main area for that time. Buchner also wrote, among others, in 1664 the " Harmonia instrumentalis ".
