Johann Andreas Herbst

Johann Andreas Herbst ( baptized on June 9, 1588 in Nuremberg, † January 24, 1666 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German composer of the early Baroque.

Autumn was a contemporary of Michael Praetorius and Heinrich Schütz. Maybe he was educated by Hans Leo Hassler, since this seemed to Fall youth in Nuremberg and also a similarity of styles is available. Autumn, Kapellmeister items when the Landgrave of Hesse in Butzbach 1614 and at the court of Darmstadt in 1618 held, and from 1623 he was Director of Music in Frankfurt am Main. Back in his native city of Nuremberg he held from 1636 and 1644 the post of Kapellmeister at the Frauenkirche, but then returned again to Frankfurt back.

He led the Venetian polychorality in the Protestant part of Germany. His students included Philipp Friedrich Buchner.

Besides the numerous, largely unpublished compositions, he left behind two music treatises Musica Practica Musica Poetica and whose historical value was ignored for long.
