Philipp Ferdinand of Limburg-Stirum

Philipp Ferdinand von Limburg- Styrum ( born August 21, 1734 Wilhermsdorf; † September 18, 1794 ) was a German nobleman, Count of Limburg by descent, through inheritance of Mr. Styrum. He was also a legacy of Wilhermsdorf in Franconia and the rule Oberstein on the Nahe. He is known for his relationship with the Princess Tarakanova.

Descent

Philipp Ferdinand was a son of Count Christian Otto of Limburg- Styrum ( born March 25, 1694 Castle Styrum, † February 24, 1749 ibid ) and his wife Princess Karoline Sofie zu Hohenlohe- Waldenburg - Schillingsfuerst (* April 20, 1705; † August 31, 1758 ).

Policy

Philipp Ferdinand von Limburg- Styrum to make hereditary claims to rule Oberstein contends succeeded. After a lengthy process in 1773 he was awarded two thirds of the rule, while the rest fell to the Electorate of Trier.

Due to the high debt of Phlipp Ferdinand the Reichshofrat has used a Schuldenliqidationskommission. To manage the power went completely over to the Electorate of Trier.

He had also inherited Wilhermsdorf in Franconia. Because of its debt in 1769 he was forced to sell this property.

In addition, he claimed, like his ancestors since the 17th century, also the title of an heir of Holstein. In contrast to these Philipp Ferdinand has formally the crest and the title of Duke of Schleswig -Holstein out, without this being recognized.

Philipp Ferdinand complained before Reichshofrat against the Kingdom of Denmark concerning Erbansprüchen in Schleswig-Holstein, but also against the imperial measures against the rulers Oberstein, Styrum and Wilhermsdorf.

The process for control Oberstein went from 1792 successful for Limburg- Styrum. The rest of the estates fell to him. However, he has now pledged two-thirds of the electorate of Trier. After his death the rule Oberstein fell to his brother Erich Maria. This she lost it a short time later by the advance of the French troops.
