Philipp Tingler

Philipp Tingler (born in 1970 in West Berlin ) is a Swiss and German writer, essayist, economist and philosopher.

Life

Tingler studied economics and philosophy at the University of St. Gallen ( HSG), at the London School of Economics and the University of Zurich and worked at the Institute for Economic Research at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich. He is a former scholar of the Foundation of the German people, and in 2002 was co-editor of an economic case study. At the Faculty of Arts of the University of Zurich, he received his doctorate for work of Thomas Mann.

His first novel, Pretty experiments (2000), described the ironic Zurich society life. 2001 las Tingler in the competition for the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize; his text post has been controversial within the jury. In his second book, I 'm a professional (2003) Tingler wrote about the mechanisms of the literary establishment. In Ting Jewellers literary and essayistic work is repeatedly dissected by ironic point of view the dynamics and Fassadenhaftigkeit society. This is a main theme of the novel both Fischtal (2007 ), which describes the decay of an upper middle class family in West Berlin, as well as by Dr. Phil (2010), where also the classic Faustian bargain motif is taken. Tingler also published the illustrated style manuals show style (2008) and Light travel (2010). 2013 appeared the book of essays How free are we still? , In which the ideals of the classic Anglo-Saxon liberalism to be developed.

Tingler 2001 received the honorary award of the Canton of Zurich for literature; 2008 the Kassel Literary Prize for comic literature.

In addition to contributions in anthologies Tingler articles, essays and columns in newspapers and magazines published ( uaVogue, star, neon, and NZZ am Sonntag ). He also wrote for radio and television (WDR, Swiss radio and television). Currently he is a columnist at the Zurich Tages-Anzeiger and Business Punk.

Tingler lives in Zurich, along with his Anglo- Swiss registered partner, regularly apostrophized Ting Jewellers in prose as " the best husband of them all". He stands up for the rights of other gay people in Switzerland.

Literary and scientific work

Ting Jewellers literary works are clearly related to one's own person and their living conditions, which is reflected even in his scientific work. For his doctoral thesis begins with the words: " This thesis has been written to not insubstantial parts at Starbucks on the Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich ( where I always flee when my cleaning lady Maxi comes ), as well as in the lounges of various airports of Milan to Johannesburg, to board several intercontinental routes, and finally at Pancakes, Eggs Benedict and endless liters of coffee at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel. " in the same paper whose title Thomas Mann and the transcendental idealism for a confrontation with the system of transcendental idealism of the German philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling (1775-1854) seems to indicate, Schelling is mentioned in the main text, not once.
