Philippe Takla

Philippe Takla ( born February 3, 1915 in Zouk Mikaël, † 10 July 2006) was a Lebanese politician and diplomat.

Biography

Takla began his political career in 1945 in the constituency Mont-Liban with the election of deputies of the National Assembly ( Assemblée nationale du Liban ), in which he was re-elected in 1947 for the constituency of Chouf and 1957 for the constituency of Baalbek.

Prime Minister Abdullah Aref al - Yafi appointed him as Minister of Finance 1951-1952 for the first time in a cabinet. In 1952, he was also the first foreign minister.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, he held again in 1958 for a few days in the government of Khalil al - Hibri and 1960-1964 in the Cabinets of Saeb Salam and Rashid Karami. In 1964, he was President of the Central Bank for a short time. From 1964 to 1965 he was in the cabinet of Prime Minister Hussein al- Oweini as well as in 1966 in the reign of Abdullah Aref al - Yafi again foreign minister. In the meantime, he was also Minister of Economic Affairs and Tourism Minister.

1967 he was appointed Permanent Representative to the United Nations ( UN) in New York City. After that, he was from 1968 to 1971 Ambassador to France.

Prime Minister Rashid al- Solh appointed him in 1974 and 1975 again as foreign minister. Most recently, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs again from 1975 to 1976 in a government of Rashid Karami. In 1976 he retired from active political life.
