Rachid Solh

Rachid Solh (Arabic رشيد الصلح Rashid al- Sulh, born 1926 ) was a Lebanese politician and former Prime Minister and member of one of the most influential Sunni Muslim families in the country.

Life

Solh was first elected in 1960 to the members of parliament of Beirut in the National Assembly. On 31 October 1974, the then President of Lebanon, Suleiman Frangié, Rachid Solh appointed prime minister. Solh resigned from his post on May 15, 1975, a few weeks after the outbreak of the Lebanese civil Kriegeses.

After the end of war and resigning the government of Omar Karaméim May 1992, President Elias Hraoui was forced, on May 13 to form a new government led by Rachid Solh and hold the first parliamentary elections since the end of the civil war. These elections were boycotted en masse from the main Christian political parties that the election process fraud and corruption accused; his tenure as prime minister lasted only five months ( until 31 October 1992). 1996 Rachid Solh also joined by the Lebanese government and from political life back generally.
