Phish

Phish is an American rock band that was known for its jams and improvisations. The music covers a wide range of genres, including rock, jazz, fusion, bluegrass, heavy metal, folk, country, blues, progressive rock, acoustic and classical music. Although the group was rarely heard on the radio or on music TV stations, a large fan base grew by word of mouth and the exchange of live concerts.

History

Phish was founded in 1983 in Burlington ( Vermont) by Trey Anastasio, Jeff Holdsworth and Jon Fishman, the University of Vermont visited together. A little later they were joined by Mike Gordon and from 1984 began the four musicians outside the university to occur. Shortly after keyboardist Page McConnell became in 1985 a member of Phish, Holdsworth returned the band 's back.

In early 1988 took Phish on their debut album Junta, which they sold exclusively as a music cassette at their concerts. In 1989 Lawn Boy, released in 1990 on the indie label " Absolute A-Go - Go", a sub-label of Rough Trade. 1991 Phish toured through America, but lost at the end of their record deal, as Rough Trade filed for bankruptcy. Elektra signed the band under contract, and in 1992 followed on their new label A Picture of Nectar. The band toured continue through the country, while Elektra brought re-releases of the first two Phish albums on the market.

During its 1992-tour Phish had at least one of your concerts ( Stowe (Vermont ) on July 25, 1992) Carlos Santana as a guest. Santana jammed with on that evening at the songs You enjoy myself, Llama, Santana 's Jam # 1, Santana 's Jam # 2, David Bowie and Catapult. This is supported by two CD releases of 1992 - one titled A phishy Story, whose recordings from Providence and Stowe come, another CD with the title Jammin Santana, whose recordings come from the same day from Stowe. Whether it comes to bootlegs on these discs is not known, since Phish during this period had no record deal.

In early 1993, appeared Phishs fourth studio album called Rift. The next year, Hoist, from which the single Down With Disease was coupled followed. End of 1994, Crimes of the Mind was released, an album that the band had recorded with The Dude of Life ( also listed as Mitt Exter many of the Phish song ) in 1991. Other publications in the '90s were, among others, the double live album A Live One, the studio LPs The Story of the Ghost and Billy Breathes (especially the latter got excellent reviews ), the live LP Slip, Stitch & Pass and finally the 6- CD box Hampton Comes Alive, in which two entire concerts were included. The album even reached gold status.

Early 2000 could Phish their success with the album Farmhouse and associated Single Heavy Things continue, but in October of the same year, the musician parted temporarily to pursue other projects. From 2001 to 2003, Elektra released twenty live albums of the band and in December 2002, Phish began also play live again. They toured one and a half years, published in 2004 a final studio album in the form of Undermind and finally gave their final separation known.

In March 2009, the band came back together and played a few concerts in the summer in the United States. In September the same year, finally released their 14th studio album " Joy " on the extensive North American tour followed. Also in the following years since Phish toured through North America.
