Piccolomini (crater)

Piccolomini is an impact crater in the east of the Moon front, south of the Mare Nectaris, south of the crater Fracastorius and northeast of Rothmann, at the southern end of the Rupes Altai. The rim is eroded with distinct terraces, the interior is largely flat and has a central mountain on.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Italian astronomer, philosopher and poet Alessandro Piccolomini.
