The nuclear power plant Pickering is a Canadian nuclear power plant in Pickering, Ontario. With 8 CANDU reactors and a power output of 4,124 MW, it is according to the Bruce nuclear power plant nuclear power plant with the second largest overall performance of Canada.

The power plant was built in 1966-1986 in several phases by the Canadian government operation Ontario Hydro. In April 1999, the company was split into five parts, which makes the energy company Ontario Power Generation ( OPG) was born. The new company continues the operation of the nuclear power plant.

Operation

In 1994, the reactor 7 of the nuclear power plant the world record for continuous operation ( 894 days without shutdown).

The blocks A-1 and A-4 had been in long-term arrest and were put back into operation. The re-commissioning of Block A - 1 was carried out on 26 September 2005.

Due to the current demand, it was decided to renew the two decommissioned reactors 2 and 3 again. For a long time these were loud releases the nuclear safety authority not yet back in operation in January 2013, the two blocks were shut down but then retroactively as of 28 May 2007 ( Block 2 ) and 31 October 2008.
