Piégut-Pluviers

Piégut -Pluviers, Occitan Puei ' good e Pluviers, is a commune with 1235 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Dordogne in the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the district Nontron and Canton Bussière- Badil. It also forms part of the Périgord -Limousin Regional Natural Park.

Etymology

The place was called in Gallo- Roman times "Podium acutum ". The Latin name then walked over " Puy- Agu " (pointy top of the hill ) finally " Piégut ".

Geography

The formerly independent communities and Piégut Pluviers merged in 1862 to Piégut -Pluviers.

The community Piégut -Pluviers located 45 kilometers from Angoulême and 65 kilometers from Périgueux. About the D 675 is further connected to the north with Nontron in the south and Saint -Mathieu in the Haute -Vienne. Furthermore, the D crosses 91 of Marval after further west in the Charente Montbron. The D 91 E connects with Le Bourdeix in the southwest.

The area contains numerous hamlets and isolated farms such as Cabaniers, Chez Noyer, La Folie, La Legue, La Maison Blanche, La Malignie, La Nosilière, La Renaudie, Lauterie, Les Champs Fleuris, Luclas, Montagut, Prieuraud, Puygaud, Soulagnieux, Tous Vents and Villefaix.

The municipality traverse only two smaller streams, the Ruisseau de l' Etang Ruisseau de l' Grolhier and the Etang des Petits Moulins, both of which drain to the northwest. There are countless smaller, man-made ponds and reservoirs present; the largest among them, the Etang Grolhier, is a bird sanctuary.

Piégut -Pluviers is located on the GR- GR 4 from Angouleme to Limoges.

Geology

The territory of Piégut -Pluviers is in its entirety from the Carboniferous Piégut -Pluviers granodiorite underlain which mainly occurs here with his coarse Normalfazies. This 250 -square-kilometer Granodioritmassiv was named after Piégut -Pluviers. The granodiorite was formerly a very desirable decorative element for door and window lintels and was mined in the quarry of Piégut and Lacaujamet ( municipality of Saint -Estèphe ). Meanwhile, these activities are, however, come to a standstill. At the northern end of the quarry of Piégut is at an extremely rare Lamprophyrgang.

History

First traces of settlement in the Neolithic back ( finds from the Butte du Collège ), the Iron Age is documented (the ruins at Puygaud and in Maine you Bos ). In the vicinity of the hamlet of Chez Noyer, you can still make a 12 meter wide, accompanied by ditches Roman road, it also was here once a Gallo-Roman forge.

In the district Pluviers was begun in the 12th century with the construction of a Romanesque church, which was altered in the 15th century, and finally in the 19th century.

On a hill in the granodiorite was built a strongly fortified castle in the 12th century in the district Piégut, which was destroyed in 1199 by Richard the Lionheart. From this system, only the 23 -foot-high tower is now preserved next to the remains of walls.

In the 15th century consisted in Piégut the dependent of Limoges Seigneurie Piégut (Puy - Agu ).

The population has fallen considerably since 1990.
