Pierre de Bourdeille, seigneur de Brantôme

Pierre de Bourdeille, seigneur de Brantome (* around 1540 in Périgord, † July 15, 1614 in Brantome ) was a French writer in the Renaissance. He gave in his memoirs (eg, " The life of the gallant ladies ", issued 1665), a vivid picture of French aristocratic society of his time.

Life

As the son of a noble family, he was a soldier and courtier, and then traveled to Italy, Scotland, Spain and Portugal. Later he fought in the French wars of religion, was killed in 1584 but in a fall from his horse so hard that he had to leave the service and began to write. A special friendship united him with Filippo Strozzi.
