Pierre Grégoire

Pierre Grégoire ( born November 9, 1907 in Viichten, † April 8, 1991 in Luxembourg (city) ) was a Luxembourgian politician of the Christian Social Party (CSV ), journalist and writer.

Journalist and writer

Grégoire, who was postal worker by profession, began his journalistic career in 1933 as editor of the daily newspaper Luxemburger Wort.

Later he wrote under his own name and under the pseudonyms " Gregory Stone ", " Peter Stein ", " Erio " and " Jopiter ".

Political career

Grégoire began his political career after the Second World War as Secretary General of the CSV.

From 1 October 1957 to April 1, 1959, he was a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council.

Between 1959 to 1964 he was minister for home affairs, transport, arts and culture, and then to 1967, Minister of Education, Culture and the Public Service. From January 3rd 1967 to February 6, 1969, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs, Army and culture in the cabinet of Pierre Werner. In the function, Minister of Foreign Affairs he was in the first half of 1969 President of the Council of the European Union.

Following his ministerial career, he was from 1969 to 1974 President of the Chamber of Deputies ( Chambre des députés ). Subsequently, the Chamber of Deputies elected him honorary president.
