Pierre Vachon

Pierre Vachon ( born June 3, 1738 in Avignon, † October 7, 1803 in Berlin) was a French violinist and composer.

Life and work

Pierre Vachon was about twenty years old to Paris, where he violin lessons with Carlo Chiabrano ( 1723 - 1770 ) took over. In December 1756, he successfully on its own two violin concertos at the Concert spiritual. In the years 1760 Pierre Vachon was first violinist in the orchestra of the Prince of Conti. Vachon During the years 1772-1778 he lived concertante in London. From 1785 to 1798 he was concertmaster of the Berlin court orchestra. Five years after his retirement, he died at the age of 72 years in Berlin.

Vachon is one of the innovative French composers of the 18th century for the development of the string quartet. He created more than 30 works in this genre. He also wrote other chamber works (in particular Trio ) and several operas ( " Renaud d' Ast", " Esope a Cythera ", " Les femmes et le secret" or " Sara "), which came early but forgotten.
