Piétrain

In the Pietrain pig is a colorful pig (ie it is spotted or mottled black and white) with erect ears, which today has a great importance in the pig.

History

The breed originated in Brabant (Belgium ) and is descended from meaty Bayeux pigs, which came in 1920 in the place Pietrain. The breed was insignificant until the 1950s. By changing the habits of consumers around 1950 away from fatty pork towards lean pork, this breed was able to prevail throughout Europe. The race then spread very strong and has been used since 1960 also in Germany. Since about 1970, the race is the most important father race in pig.
